A few years ago, my son left for college, and I had some grand plans for his bedroom once he moved out. I envisioned a home office/lounge area where I could get work done, feel inspired to come up with new ideas and recipes, and a place where Kate and her friends could hang out since we don’t have a basement. Fast forward 3 years later and this poor room has become a catch all for all things left behind. With the help of my new friends at Modsy, I have a plan and am in the process of turning this lame-o catch all guest bedroom into the office/lounge area of my dreams! Now, let’s take a look at the disaster that was our guest bedroom and the plans that Modsy hooked me up with!
Below, you’ll find 3 photos of our guest bedroom before our journey with Modsy began.
It had become the “cat room,” the “home gym,” and also the “storage room.” Note the cat house, the tossed aside chair, the old abandoned fish tank, random boxes of junk, and a bookcase that didn’t have a home anywhere else in our house. I cringed every time I entered the room!
But alas, there was a light at the end of the tunnel, and Modsy made is ridiculously easy to get help with a new design! I simply created an account and followed their simple directions, and they sent me two sets of design plans for the room within a couple of days.
Let me explain how this all worked for me. First of all, Modsy is a personalized home design solution that utilizes 3D visualization technology to let your try furniture before you buy. That’s a huge deal for me, because I was able to tell them my style and exactly what I wanted and they worked with me to find furniture, artwork, rugs and decor that worked perfectly within my space. I was literally able to design and shop for my home, in one place, with products from hundreds of stores…no need to go to different furniture stores, which is one of my least favorite things to do! They seriously took the guesswork out of buying furniture and made designing this room pain free!
I started by uploading pictures that I took with my phone to Modsy, along with the room and door measurements. Then, I sat back and waited for my 3D room designs to be delivered straight to my email inbox. From there, I was able to discuss things that I wanted changed, and their team did the work. Now I’m ready to choose which items that I’d like to purchase and have them delivered to my front door! My dreams of having a beautiful office/lounge area are about to become reality.
Let’s take a look at the design that I chose, and I’ll also show you the design that I didn’t chose. I love things about both of them, but ultimately, this one knocked my socks off!
Modsy Design #1
I asked for color in the accessories and muted tones for the sofa. I even shared some designs I loved from Pinterest to give them a good idea of what I was looking for. I also took a quick style quiz that was very fun!
I love everything about this space, and the beauty of it is, I am guaranteed that it fits my room since I sent them the measurements and photos.
The sofa is the perfect linen colored tone, and I’m dying over the wooden desk and ottoman! The way they tied together the artwork, poof, chair and throw pillows makes my heart sing. Also…I’m a huge plant lover so I loved that they integrated plants into the room. If you look back at the before photos, it’s hard to believe this could be the same space.
I can see myself sitting at this gorgeous desk doing research and typing up blog posts…it’s just such a bright, inspiring space!
On the other wall, there will be a shelf for more plants and some fun decor pieces as well as a beautiful television stand and a fiddle leaf fig plant, which just so happens to be my favorite plant. I actually have two of them in my living room and kitchen downstairs. That sunburst mirror will bounce light back from the window making this room nice and bright with natural light.
And the rug…be still my pastel loving heart. This angle of my new room gets me so excited! Who knew I’d be able to fit all of the things I really wanted into this little unused bedroom?
Now, let me show you the option that I passed on! It’s still amazing and gorgeous and a show stopper!
Modsy Design #2
This design is a little more edgy, and so much fun! The couch is gorgeous, but that desk is ah-mazing! I love that it does double duty as a desk/storage unit. The artwork is simple and fun, and the pillows are such a pretty color! The rug actually looks a lot like one we have in our master bedroom. Crazy how they got my style down so well!
I love the modern, yet rustic style of this desk and chair together. I’m not sure I would have put the two together, but they work perfectly! And that cactus? To. Die. For.
Here is another look at this space from a different angle. I love that they layered the white hide run over the other rug!
Here is the wall where the television would go…I love the open cabinet! They included a very large mirror that my daughter is hoping I will get for her too. I love that they echoed that cactus plant in the opposite corner, and the yellow stems in the yellow vase are so fun!
I am in the process of making my final decisions and can’t wait to finally have a beautiful space to work in and be inspired in! Kate can’t wait to have friends over to watch movies and hang out without having them in her bedroom, and I’m pretty sure my husband will be trying to inch his way in here too! Too bad they didn’t add a “No Boys Allowed” sign to the space ;)
