If you have pets or children, you may hesitate to add rugs to your home’s decor. Little muddy paws and food spills are almost sure to happen, but with a few tricks, you can add rugs to your home and keep them clean even with the most messy little ones.
I have teamed up with Ruggable to share some easy tips for getting your rugs clean whether it’s due to muddy puppy paws, juice spills, or even an accident prone adult who may spill red wine every now and then.
Before I get to the tips, I want to share our new Ruggable rug. To say that this rug is a game changer would be a vast understatement. While I love the floors in our home, standing on them for long periods of time was killing my feet. I’ve wanted to add a large rug to the dining/kitchen area for a long time, but have been hesitant because I was afraid that keeping it clean would be a problem. While spot cleaning is easy enough, I knew that a rug in this part of our home would get a ton of wear and tear since this is the area of our home that we spend most of our time in. It’s where the dogs come in and out of the house via their doggy door, the kiddos do their homework, and where we all hang out while I prep and cook meals. That’s where Ruggable came in and saved the day for me!
Ruggable’s system is amazing and comes in two parts. The bottom part is a Rug Pad that you lay down first, then the top part is the Rug Cover which securely attaches to the rug pad and keeps the rug from moving around or bunching up.
The Rug Cover is stain-resistant and contains an internal waterproof barrier. You can spot-clean or machine-wash it depending on the accident type. For major stains or accidents, they recommend washing your Rug Cover immediately. Even an 8×10 Rug Cover can fit into a standard washer and dryer!
This rug has changed the look of our room so much, but it’s also made standing at my kitchen island much more pleasant. I love to cook, and will spend hours at my kitchen island chopping and prepping food…it’s definitely my happy place!
The dogs have been in and out for two weeks, during days of rain and lots of muddy paws, and all I’ve had to do is wipe the rug with a damp cloth to clean it! In short, I give our new Ruggable Rug an A+!
There are so many different sizes and designs of Ruggable Rugs, and you can find them all HERE at Ruggable.com. The rug I chose is the Hendesi Heriz Abalone Rug in size 8 X 10\. I will be purchasing a few more for other areas of our home soon.
With Ruggable Rugs, cleanup is super easy and can usually be done with a damp cloth, or by washing the rug cover in your washing machine. Here are a few easy rug stain cleaning tricks you can use on Ruggable Rugs and most other rugs too…

Cleaning Non-Ruggable Rugs
!!! WARNING !!! Before trying any of these methods, check your rug’s cleaning instructions to be sure it isn’t Dry Clean Only.
How to Spot Clean a Rug Stain
To clean a fresh stain, start by blotting the stain with a clean towel. In a small bowl or spray bottle, combine 2 parts hydrogen peroxide with 1 part dish liquid. Mix well and add to stained area. (This stain cleaner is mostly safe for colors, but be sure to test it on small area first.) Let the solution sit on the stain for about 5 minutes, then blot away any moisture. This solution will usually completely erase any stain, including red wine.
How to Clean a Set in Rug Stain
Sometimes you don’t notice a stain until it has set into your rug. No worries, there is an easy trick to help with those set in stains…shaving cream! Add a small amount of white foaming shaving cream (the cheap stuff is perfect), and rub it into the stain. Use a clean cloth to blot away the stain. Repeat up to 3 times. This method should help to remove most set in stains.
I can’t say enough about our new Ruggable Rug, and can’t wait to add them to other rooms of our home. The ease of cleaning along with the fact that Ruggable Rugs are stylish, non-toxic and made with sustainable materials make this mom super happy! They don’t sell these anywhere else?
Not at this time. If you have any questions, I can pass them on to Ruggable for you if you like!
I loved the look of my ruggable but I couldn’t keep the ends from curling! I tried reverse rolling. And taping the ends down, but they just curled up again. They said this was just part of the rug but it was too unsightly so I got rid of it. If they fix this issue, I would buy another.
I hate to hear that, Laurie! I haven’t had that experience with mine, and I’m so sorry you did! Thanks for letting me know! xoxo, Jess
This seems to be a consistently reported issued as I’ve googled away for reviews. I’d really love to buy the product, but this is a deal killer for me. Jessica, how long have you had your rug? How many people have you polled to see if they’re having the same issue, or not? Thanks!!!
Hi, Andy! I’ve had my rug for about 3 months now with no issues. Mine is a bit anchored down by a small settee and a kitchen island though, so the corners don’t really have a chance to curl. On other rugs I have in my home, I do have Nevercurls (rug corner stabilizers that stick on the bottom of your rugs corners) that keep it from curling. I’m not suggesting that you should have to get those, but they are handy. I will say, I love my Ruggable…it’s just nice to be able to wash such a large rug (mine is 8 X 10) in the washing machine. Hope this helps, and feel free to ask me any other questions you have! Jess
I LOVE those curtains. Where’d you find them?
