One of our family's favorite things to do every year is throw a Pumpkin Decorating Party! We love having a few friends over and letting the kiddos get down and dirty, decorating their pumpkins! This year, I thought I would share a couple of tips for throwing a pumpkin decorating party just in case you are thinking about throwing one! The key is...keep it simple. With kiddos, carving can be tough, so we like to decorate them instead!
With a few simple supplies and some small pumpkins, you can guarantee the kiddos will have a blast! Here is one of the pumpkins that Kate made this year! She calls it her Spider Web Pumpkin! It was made using some paper spider webs that we pre punched, some Mod Podge and a ribbon...super simple!
First you will need some pumpkins. We go for the smaller pie pumpkins instead of big ones, because they are easy for the kiddos to handle. They are really inexpensive as well! I like to get a variety of colors if possible.
I try to supply some fun things that can easily be glued to the pumpkins, like buttons and little spiders. (You may have to hot glue those on, so this is when a parent would need to help.) I also supply some Mod Podge, glue, glitter glue...
A variety of Halloween scrapbook paper and paper punches. (The spider web punch is what we used for our Spider Web Pumpkin above!)
I love these paint markers that Elmers makes...they make drawing on the pumpkins so easy, and they paint won't wash away!
And, of course, some acrylic paints and paint brushes just in case someone wants to get really creative!
Now, for the mamas. I mean, we need a little treat too, right? I like to set up a coffee bar with my favorite International Delight Pumpkin Pie Spice Creamer so we can make our own Pumpkin Spice Lattes without all of the sugar and fat, some apple cider doughnuts from our local apple orchard, some mixed nuts and some candy corn. There is no need to go crazy with the food...just some coffee and snacks to nibble on will work!
The moms get to relax, the kiddos get to create, and everyone is happy!
So...what do you think...wanna throw your own Pumpkin Decorating Party?
Here are the pumpkins we decorated last year!
