To help make your sugar scrub super cute, we designed these amazing chalkboard labels for you to print out and use! You can click HERE to download the printable Peppermint Sugar Scrub Labels for yourself for free! I added a little red to mine using a sharpie marker ;)
They are made to fit regular mason jar lids and the new smaller ones as well! You just print them, cut them out and place on the lid, but under the lid ring. I like to print mine on sticker paper or glue them to the lid to keep them in place! Tie a little ribbon or baker's twine around your lid and add a candy cane and rosemary or evergreen sprig for an extra special touch!

Stephanie says
Thanks for the review! This is a really cute and easy scrub to make, but do you have any other recipes/ideas where there isn't any coconut oil added? I am allergic to anything coconut! Thank you!
Jessica says
Hi, Stephanie! You can absolutely change out the coconut oil for olice oil or almond oil! Hope this helps and happy holidays!
~Jess
MC says
What size mason jar are you using and is the coconut oil in liquid form?
CP says
What kind of coconut oil is used?
Jessica says
I used organic unrefined coconut oil in the solid form, not liquid. Hope this helps!
Kris says
I used the solid form of coconut oil, but after you melt it and mix it with the sugar, and place it in a jar, it’s solidifies again and it’s almost impossible to get out of the jar! I made this as gifts for all of my female family, and while they liked the scent, their feedback was how difficult it was to remove from the jar. Wondering if you can use the fractionated coconut oil instead?
Emily says
They used the wide mouth Ball jar pint size! Happy Holidays!
Angela says
Thank you for such an awesome recipe for a scrub! I haven't made it yet but will plan on making a bunch for xmas! This made me excited as I didn't want to invest in a lot of money for each person/co workers etc! Thanks!
Krystal says
I made these and love them. Is it possible to get a full page of the smaller printable labels? I tried to cut and paste but it wouldn't work. I am printing them on sticker paper and don't want to waste half the page. Thanks, Merry Christmas
Phet Werner says
There was another site that calls for baby oil... will that work?
Jessica says
You could try it...I'm not a huge fan of baby oil, but should work just fine!
Bernadette says
Can this be used on the whole body or just hands and feet?
Jessica says
I use it on my entire body, except for my face! I have sensitive skin, so I only use certain things for my face, but some have used it on their face. Hope this helps!
Pam says
Hi Jessica!
Does the container have to be glass for peppermint scrub?
Jessica says
Hi, Pam! No, it doesn't have to be glass...plastic will work as well.
Jen says
Essential oils will degrade the plastic over time so yes you need to use glass.
Kristen Oneal says
How long does this keep? I want to make a plan for making it before Christmas.
Jessica says
Hi, Kristen! I've been using mine for over 2 months and it still smells amazing!
Amy says
Hey! Is the coconut oil cold compressed? or is it liquid?
Jessica says
I use compressed, but it melts, so I believe liquid would be fine too. I do use unrefined. Good luck!
Angie says
Is it supposed to solidify after sitting and do you have to heat it up or did I just not use enough oil?
Christine says
This happened to me too. Any answer on this??
Jessica says
It should be creamy, but thick. You may just need to add a little more coconut oil.
Brittany says
I just made this! I really loved it last night. But this morning the jar of it is solid. Is there a way to fix this?
Jessica says
It should be pretty solid once it is finished, but if it gets really cold, it may be more solid. You can use a spoon to scoop it out or warm it up a bit to make it less solid. Hope this helps!
morgan says
Where did you buy your coconut oil because I really want to buy it at a meijer or something but I don't know if they carry it?
Jessica says
Hi, Morgan! I bought mine at Meijer in the pharmacy section near the vitamins! I've seen it in just about every store now, so it shouldn't be too hard to find! Good luck! ~Jess
Lynn says
Thank you so much for the recipe and labels. Do you happen to know what fonts are on the label? I'm trying to make a matching label for a peppermint bath salts recipe that I'll be giving my friend, also. TIA!
Jessica says
I'm actually not sure, Lynn...sorry. My friend Andrea from The Cottage Market made them for me. I can send her an email and ask for sure though! When I hear back from her, I'll reply here :)
Ellen says
Can I get the recipe for the scrub?
Ellen says
How long will this last? I want to make it for Christmas presents.
Jessica says
Hi, Ellen! Mine lasted for at least 3 months...that's how long I used it for :) Should last longer, so no worries!
Brooke says
Does the recipe above make only 1 jar, or more?
Jessica says
This recipe makes one of the jars pictured above or a few small jars.
Maxine says
If I wanted to use peppermint extract instead of oil should I use less or more or is it just to preference?
Jessica says
I'm not real sure...I think you'd just have to add a bit at a time until you get the scent you want...great idea though!
Sherrie says
Thank you for sharing! I just made three of these. I hand made my labels because I don't have a printer. Construction paper and metallic Sharpies worked OK. Plan to make some more before Christmas. God bless!
Jessica says
This made my day, Sherrie! I love that you improvised! You could also use black scrapbook paper and a white chalk pen :) Happy Holidays!
~Jess
Jennifer Lynn says
Is there another peppermint scent/oil I could use? I don't have essential oils.
Jessica says
I'm not sure, Jennifer. You could try finding the Peppermint Oil at a pharmacy...tons of them have it now! Hope this helps! ~Jess
Christine says
Hi, i don't have the oil you linked to, but I do have Scentsy Pepperment Essential Oil... that will do the trick too correct?
Jessica says
Hi, Christine! I just looked up the Scentsy Peppermint Oil, and I can't tell if it is 100% therapeutic grade or not. If it is, you are good to go! Hope this helps!
Christine says
Great thanks! Another dumb question.. what should the consistency be like?? I just made some but not sure if it's too 'sugary' lol.. maybe more coconut oil?
Cathy says
Scentsy oils are not therapeutic grade????
Jessica says
You are exactly right, Cathy! Scentsy oils are more for smell than anything. They are not essential oils. Thanks for sharing! ~Jess
nanea lara says
Hi, do the jars have to be vacuum sealed?
Jessica says
Hi, Nanea! No, the jars do not need to be sealed.
Tomisa says
Question. How many jars does the recipe make ?
Jessica says
One large jar or a few small ones. It just depends on the size of the jar. For the ones that have the larger lid, this will make one batch :)
Rachel says
I'm looking for ideas to put in clear ornaments, to use as name tags on a gift. I love this scrub idea, but do you think the scrub would pour out of the ornament easily, or is it took thick?
Jessica says
It may be a bit too think for the glass globe ornaments unfortunately. Are you looking for gift tags and glass ornament ideas?
Julie says
You can put bath salts in a clear glass ornament. Fill it 3/4 with Epsom Salts, 1 tbsp Baking Soda, 10 drops Essential Oil.
Laura says
Approximately how long did the scrub last?
Heather says
If you need to use almond oil instead of coconut oil how much do you use?? Or do you use the same amount??
Teri Walker says
Hi, I'm so excited to make this tomorrow, if our Briar Patch has the essential oils! Can you do this with lavender oils too? What size jar, pint, half pint? Thank you, 2 days to go and I love this idea!!!
Doreen says
Would the coconut /olive etc. oils clog the drain when they are washed down? I read somewhere that in oil pulling with oils, you should spit it out in a paper towel, and not in the sink. After using the scrub, don't you wash it off in the shower or bath?
Jessica says
Hi, Doreen! I've used it for a couple of years now and haven't had any issue. Hope this helps!
Jennifer says
Thank you Jessica and Andrea! These make the perfect gift on a tight budget. Love it!!
gina says
What is the light yellow ingredient you are adding before the essential oil? :)
Jessica says
Hi, Gina! I'm not sure what light yellow ingredient you mean? There is only sugar, coconut oil and peppermint essential oil. Hope this helps! ~Jess
Gina says
i must have confused your post with another... tried it last night with organic sugar and it's wonderful! thanks! making a dozen for my 15 year old to give her friends! thanks!
cindy says
jen where on the site can I find pumpkin scrub labels
Emily says
You saved me this year! From the simple prep to the pre made label that printed off sooo nicely! I am 28 weeks with a 2 year old and I started having contractions so I am sooo behind trying not to over do anything! Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!
Merry Christmas!!
Jerry says
Thanks so much for sharing. In our business we use fractionated coconut oil which is liquid form. The pro side is that there is less issue with drains and other oil-based ingredients and seems to blend better than using a solid that was melted and then re-solidified. The only negative we've found is that the fractionated coconut oil does not have the rich, creamy vanilla coconut scent which pairs with the peppermint essential oil to make the product smell like candy canes. This can be easily remedied with the addition of few drops of pure vanilla extract or vanilla-infused oil. Oh, and there's no need for a preservative either since peppermint essential oil is itself naturally anti-bacterial. We've also included finely pulverized red/green candy canes to give the scrub a little more festive look. Happy Scrubbing :)
Cathy says
I made this and it smells terrible. Hated to even give it as gifts after I went to the trouble of purchasing everything off your site.
Jessica says
I cannot imagine how it could smell bad. I have had thousands of readers make it with great results. Could one of the things that you used been spoiled maybe?
Carrie says
Hi Jessica!
So, I love the sugar scrub idea. Should there be a layer of coconut oil on the top after you jar it up? Should I add sugar or scoop the oil out?
Smells lovely????
TY for your help.
Carrie
Jessica says
There shouldn’t, but it won’t hurt. You cane either add more sugar, or give it a stir before using :)
Pam says
How many pint size jars will this recipe make?
Susana says
I love the sugar scrub idea. It's excellent!! TY so much.
Simone says
Hi
I printed this on black card stock like what u used but the white printing is hardly showing up, what did I do wrong?
Jessica says
Hi, Simone! I printed mine on white card stock. Printers don't typically use white ink, so that's why I use white card stock. Hope this helps! xoxo, Jess
Justine says
My daughter and I enjoyed making the peppermint sugar scrub! Thanks for the recipe and labels!
Was such a great economical gift idea for her to give her college friends!
Priscilla says
When you mix the coconut oil with the other ingredients is the oil supposed to be in the liquid form? And then do you need to refrigerate the mixture?
Judy Rubin says
Does is matter what type of sugar you use? Some kinds are much coarser than others.
Jessica says
You can melt it if you like or leave it solid. It will re-solidify once it sits for a while. I would only refrigerate if you live in extremely high heat.
Donna Mitchell says
I would be careful using the solid coconut oil and melting as it will harden again as it goes down your drain so not great for the septic system or municipal drains. Oils that remain liquid at room temperature would be a better choice.
Veniece says
Hi Jessica
Love the idea and I made 6 . Is it supposed to be hard after a day or 2? It's quite hard and need to dig into it to get some out?
Jessica says
It shouldn't be rock solid, but it definitely should be somewhat solid. When applied to skin with water, it will soften and work properly. If it's too liquidy, it won't work well as a scrub. If yours is too solid, just add a little more coconut oil. Hope this helps! JESS
Laura Nickell says
Hi! Thank you for such a great, frugal gift idea for others as well as yourself. I was wandering, would this scrub would be okay for daily use on your face as a cleanser? Thank you so much! Merry Christmas!!!
