A couple of weeks ago, I talked about The Importance of the First 59 Minutes of Your Day Is, and challenged myself to make a couple of simple changes to make our mornings better with the help of IKEA! Well, today, I’m happy to report that we have implemented a couple of the ideas I mentioned in that post, and our mornings have improved drastically. Truth be told, I thought they would make mornings a little easier, but I can honestly say, they are MUCH better! Starting the First 59 off in a good way really does make a difference!
One of the items that I was looking for was something to help Kate get her clothes ready for the next day of school. We purchased the GRUNDTAL Valet Stand for her bedroom. It took just a few minutes to put together, and is perfect for her to put everything she needs to get dressed in the mornings on. She absolutely loves coordinating her outfits now from top to bottom!
She places her jewelry in the dish at the top, her top, jeans and socks on the rungs in the middle, her sweater or jacket on one of the left knobs, and her belt and purse on the right knobs. Ther is even a place for her shoes! She says it’s more fun putting her clothes together, and they are all right there for her when she is ready to get dressed! No more yelling for me to help find something at the last minute, and she’s starting to use different clothing pieces for new outfits. Win, Win!
Now, for Cam. We have made a huge improvement in his mornings as well!
Cam’s biggest issue was either forgetting an activity that he had planned, or forgetting to tell me until the last minute. I really needed a place to write down all of his (and Kate’s) activities so there wouldn’t be any more surprises or forgotten events or meetings. I found the KLUDD Noticeboard and placed it on my desk near out front door. Cam has started texting me or letting me know as soon as he has something scheduled, and I write it on the board so we can all see it and nobody forgets! It sure has stopped those last minute announcements in the mornings about afterschool activities, therefor making me happier as well as Cam!
I also keep my lists or any things I need to be sure to remember on the board as well! I just use a wet erase marker, and wipe away when finished. It’s so nice to have a central location close to our front door to see these things. Sometimes, notes on the refrigerator just don’t get seen when we are running out the door. I also have the kiddos drop off any permission slips or papers on the desk now too, so there are no last minute paper hunts or signings. Happy kids and happy momma!
I can’t tell you how nice it has been starting the First 59 of our day with less hassle! Everyone leaves home in the better mood when the mornings are organized! The kids are a little more chatty in the mornings instead of grumpy, and I don’t start my day feeling frazzled and frustrated.
I challenge you to find a few ways to make the First 59 of your day easier. It may be finding a spot for your kids to put their clothes for the next day or creating your own memo board….whatever small change you make will make a huge difference, I promise!
Let’s get those First :59 in shape together!
