It's that time of the year...the kiddos cheeks and faces are chapped because they are out in the cold and constantly licking their lips. We moms are and grandparents are pleading with them to please stop licking their lips while we slab lotion and chapstick on them as often as we can while they try to wriggle away from us. Ugh. The problem with most chapsticks and lotions is that they are petroleum based which will protect the skin, but doesn't really provide a ton of relief or promote healing. So, today, I want to share my magic Homemade Winter Skin Relief Balm. It's so great for your skin and your kiddos, and will help fight the chap and redness...whooop!
Kate's face stays red most of the winter, especially under her nose. She's been using the Peppermint Lip Balm we made together on her lips, so for once they are actually in good shape! Now to tackle the red chapped skin...
Here are the ingredients that we used:
¼ Cup of Organic Coconut Oil
¼ Cup of Shea Butter
¼ Tsp. Vitamin E Oil
20 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil
I added them all to my handy Wilton Candy Melter that I use when I need to melt anything, and let them melt.
Then I poured my mixture into jars and chapstick tubes so I can share with some of my friends with little kids. I placed them in my refrigerator so they will solidify. You don't have to leave them in there, but I usually do just to keep them nice and solid. They will soften if left out and be more like a lotion than a balm...the good news is that they work they same in either form!
Now, just run your fingers across the balm and apply to chapped or dry skin! I suggest using the chapstick tubes for traveling and babies!
