This Homemade Toilet Cleaner is a great alternative to harsh, chemical filled toilet cleansers. It’s great for deep cleaning toilets and will leave them disinfected and deodorized.

Homemade Toilet Cleaner - Liquid Version

I’ve shared my super easy to make 3 Ingredient Toilet Cleaning Bombs here, and they are great for keeping your toilet clean in between deep cleanings. Sometimes your toilet needs to have a good deep cleaning with a scrubbing up around the inside of your toilet bowl’s rim though, and this is the perfect solution for that!

Squirt or pour a generous amount into your toilet bowl…about 1/4 cup.

Use a toilet scrub brush or sponge to spread the toilet cleaner around the inside of your bowl, and scrub under the rim and the entire inside of your toilet bowl. Once you are finished, simply flush the toilet to rinse! Your toilet should be fresh, clean and deodorized. I recommend using this method at least once every two weeks and using my Toilet cleaning bombs in between deep cleanings.

I am living in Rwanda, Africa and unable to get the oils or the Castillo soup. Can we use regular dish washing soap, baking soda, and _________________?

Hi, Sue! You could definitely try dish liquid instead of the Castile soap and use fresh or store bought lemon juice instead of the essential oils. Hope this helps! And wow…Rwanda, Africa? I love knowing where reader’s are reading from! Have a beautiful day! ~Jess

If fresh or store bought lemon is used how long will it last in the bottle? If the oils are used how long does it last being stored?
    Thanks

Thank you for this recipe! I’m in the process of switching all of our chemical cleaners to natural solutions. Is it safe to keep the cleaner in a plastic bottle even though it has lemon essential oil? I’ve read that the citrus ones can cause issues with plastic. Do you happen to know?

Since the oil is so diluted, a plastic bottle should be fine. I’ve been using and refilling an old toilet cleaner container that is plastic for a couple of years now. Hope this helps!

I assume this is safe for septic tanks. Don’t know why it wouldn’t be, but asking just in case!

Is there a substitute for the Castile soap. I can’t find it in Canada and Amazon doesn’t ship to my area.

Is this too thick to put in a glass amber spray bottle? I am not excited about using plastic with essential oils? Thanks!
