If you are visiting from Stone Gable, welcome! Today I'm going to tell y'all about one of my favorite yearly events, Haven Conference. If you are a blogger, have thought about starting a blog or are just interested in what in the world we bloggers do, you are in the right place, so continue on ;)
Usually my posts are all about sharing a simple and budget friendly DIY project. Well, today is going to be a bit different. Today, I'm going to talk a little about my job...blogging, and an amazing conference that I love to attend yearly called Haven! This year, I was asked...along with some other amazingly talented bloggers to be a Haven Maven Mentor, which is beyond exciting for me! Haven is an amazing blog conference geared towards DIY bloggers. It's the most amazing experience to get together with like minded men and women and learn more about blogging...and pick up a few extra DIY skills too. We ladies put together a little blog hop to show each other off a bit and share some of our blogging experiences over the years. To kick this thing off, we each answered a few questions...
Q. How many years have you been blogging?
A. I've been blogging for almost 5 years, and wouldn't have it any other way. When I started, I just wanted a place to talk things out...I was feeling aggravated about the way I saw other moms and women acting and trying to keep up with each other, so it was a little online journal for me in the beginning. After a few months, I started sharing some of the simple DIY projects that I was doing around my home, and I really caught the bug. The more I shared, the more confident I became in my abilities. I still share some DIY, but figured out that my readers really love simple tips and ideas for their home. I share tons of cleaning tips and ideas to make life a little easier. I love being able to help other people learn to do things for themselves!
Q. What is your favorite DIY project you've completed?
A. I'd have to say that my favorite DIY project ever is my Peel-And-Stick Tile Backsplash. It was so easy and inexpensive to do! It literally took me an afternoon to put it up. I love that it's budget friendly, requires no tools and can be used anywhere...even renters can do this! I updated the look recently with the same product (see below), and there was absolutely no damage to my walls...whoop!
Q. What is something significant you learned from a conference?
A. I think the most significant thing I have learned from a conference was to be true to myself and speak with my own voice. Staying authentic and sharing what I am really passionate about was hard for me at first...you look around at so many blogs and think you need to be like them when in reality, you need to connect with your readers and share your true self. I feel like I have the best connection with my readers...we just get each other, and isn't that what blogging is all about?

Q. What is one piece of advice you would offer a blogger--new or otherwise--who is going to Haven?
A. Just be yourself, and don't be afraid to talk to other bloggers, big or small! Haven is a great place to meet other bloggers and learn, but the best take away is the connection you make with other bloggers. You just have to put yourself out there. I have met so many other bloggers that I now consider close friends at Haven. We help each other, lean on each other when things get tough, and help each other with ideas and collaborations as well. Haven truly is a place where you should feel safe among your very own kind of people.
