We all grew up with certain holiday traditions, but sometimes it's fun to create your own. Our children are getting older, so we thought it would be fun to create some new traditions since most of our family traditions centered around children's activities. One thing that I love is the smells that the holiday season brings...fresh pine, cookies baking in the oven, peppermint, oranges and cloves boiling in a pot of water on the stove...these are some of my favorites! Last year, I bought my first rosemary tree, and this year, it was the first thing Kate asked for! So, we headed out in search of a rosemary tree and planted it in a pretty white urn. It's so fun to pinch a little sprig of rosemary off and let your home fill with the scent of rosemary! I created this sweet vignette with my favorite Glade® Under the Mistletoe candle and a bottle brush Christmas tree under a cloche! It smells so amazing, and is pretty too! The Glade® Under the Mistletoe fragrance makes our home smell like the holidays...it's such a lovely fresh scent that really brings back memories from my childhood Christmases.
Another change we made is allowing our children to help decorate our home for the holidays. This used to be my thing. I would allow the kiddos to help decorate our Christmas tree, but now the whole family kicks in and helps! They really seem to enjoy it! We throw on some Christmas tunes, make some hot cocoa and have a ton of fun setting the holiday tone in our home as a family!
We have also started cooking our holiday meals as a family. This is another thing that I used to do on my own, but now that they are older, I have eased back and given everyone their own dishes or tasks to handle when we are cooking our holiday meals. It's so gratifying to see how proud they are of themselves, and I truly hope this is a tradition that will continue with their families when they are older!
Making handmade Christmas ornaments has always been a yearly tradition, but we have been able to step it up a notch! No more paper and crayon only ornaments...now that they are older, it's nice to be able to make keepsake ornaments that I can send with them when they have families of their own.
Baking...hmmm. Baking has never been my thing, but our children love it, and they are actually good at it! It's so much fun to buy all of the goodies and step back while they take over my kitchen! They will be baking cookies to give as gifts along with some of their homemade ornaments this year!
