Filet mignon is often considered as a meal you would have when you go to an upscale steakhouse or a fancy date night dinner. Not only can you enjoy a restaurant style filet at home, but you can also cook it in your air fryer! This easy air fryer filet mignon cooks to perfection in about 15 minutes and is perfect for date night at home without spending a ton of money!

There are quite a few options when choosing which cut of beef you like best when it comes to steaks, but my favorite steak by far is a filet mignon! The filet is tender, lean and full of flavor. When cooked correctly, it will slice like butter. It's a nice, lean cut of beef, and is a great protein choice that not only tastes amazing, but is also a source of strength. Beef has nutrients, like high quality protein, iron, zinc and B-vitamins, which helps to ensure that myself and my family are getting enough healthy protein in our diets. I've teamed up with my friends at The Kentucky Beef Council to bring you these decadent Air Fryer Filets!

Why Should You Air Fry Your Filets

While grilling is usually my go to method for cooking steaks, it's much more convenient to cook steaks indoors in my air fryer, especially when weather doesn't permit outdoor grilling. Air fryers make cooking things like beef a snap because they cook food by circulating air around it like a convection oven. When cooking steaks, the result is a steak that is nice and charred on the outside, but juicy and delicious on the inside, which makes air frying steaks one of my new favorite things to do!

How to Cook Filets in an Air Fryer

uncooked filets on a roasting pan with salt and pepper

For cooking filets in the air fryer, start by spraying each side of the steak with extra virgin olive oil, and generously salt and pepper each side.

filet mignon in an air fryer

Next, place the filets in your air fryer basket or grill plate if you air fryer is equipped with one. For the model of air fryer that I use, the Breville Smart Oven Air, I like to cook things like steak on a wire rack with a sheet pan underneath to prevent the drippings from making a mess...it's totally not necessary though.

Preheat your air fryer to 375° F. Place in the air fryer and cook the first side for 10 minutes. Flip the filets and cook for an additional 5 minutes or until the steak reaches your desired doneness.

Remove the filets from the air fryer, tent with foil and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

What temperature is the best for steaks?

For steaks (½ inch or thicker, insert an instant-read thermometer horizontally from the side, so that it penetrates the thickest part or the center of the steak, not touching bone or fat.
For medium rare the temperature should read 145°F, the temperature for medium steaks should read 160°F, and well done is 170°F.
After cooking, let steaks rest before serving.

filet mignon with garlic and rosemary

For extra flavor, add a tab of Garlic Herb Compound Butter to the top of each filet and allow it to melt over the steak.

filet mignon with rosemary sliced against the grain

Enjoy your filet with your favorite vegetables or a delicious salad!

I love you and I love your blog, however today I find I must give you some information. I don't have an air fryer because I can't afford one. I am not alone. Second, who besides the rich can afford filet mignon? Not me or many, many others!!!! Could you suggest another piece of beef that would be special?

Jessica....I remember the first time I made Filet. I cooked it til it was shoe leather. Who knew? I had never even eaten Filet before. So I have another chance, but this time I have my air fryer. I just made a rib eye the other night and I don't think I cooked it for as long as your recipe says to cook Filet.

If you don't have an air fryer and you can't afford a filet mignon, then don't click on a link that says how to cook a filet mignon in an air fryer. Pretty simple stuff if you ask me.

          Listen Linda,
It's not about being rich it's about priorities. If you really wanted an air fryer you would save until you had the money for one. If you wanted to have a filet for you and your spouse you would save for it.. I'm no where close to Rich but I prioritize things I want. Shouldnt everyone? Want your Bill's paid. Yup that's prioritizing. Kids need clothes yup. Prioritizing And so on.... Just saw your message and it annoyed me.. Stop being upset with what other have Linda...

100% agree! Why do people click on links to complain that the link information isn't suited to their personal situation? If you don't have an air fryer and/or can't afford filet mignon, move along. This link is not for you. As an example, I don't do price checks on new Teslas or classic Bentleys for the same reason this link does not suit you. If you desire to have an air fryer and/or filet mignon, think about how YOU can make that happen and go for it. Everyone needs goals. Lastly, thanks for not referring to her as "Karen."

Those are misconceptions. You don't have to be rich to buy filet mignon or an air fryer. There are great values on both if you just look for them. However, if you still feel those things to be true, perhaps this particular article just isn't for you. Don't "yuck" someone else's "yum."

I have to agree. I have seen air fryers at the local dollar store for $35.00. I have also seen them for a couple of hundred dollars. I treated my husband and myself with a 6 quart basic air fryer for less than $100. As for the steak, we cannot afford nor do we feel safe going to a steakhouse. Getting a filet dinner costs about $80. Two nice filets for 2 cost less than $25.00. Great recipe and instuctions.

On a very tiny budget like my own, things can be done you just gotta be smart and get off the couch, (I'm sure you have free time if you're scrolling through recipes for stuff you dont have) be productive. I got my ninja foodi air fryer oven at one of those online auctions super cheap. My lazy but Went from rarely cooking to it being so quick and easy every night, with the huge help of these recipes. Then got several boxes of frozen Chicken and every kind of steak that I know of were also a low price deal cause I bought a family pack.

It isn't the author's problem that you are unable to be valuable enough to the world to not afford meat or an air fryer.

The fact that you attacked someone who freely shared this valuable information because of your "poorness" shows precisely why you are poor. Of course, nothing is your fault.

I'm so glad to have found direction on how to cook filet mignon in the air fryer! Thank you! We have the Ninja air fryer and the times on this with 6oz filets was too long. Our steaks were nicely browned on the outside, but were medium. I'll try a total of 12 minutes next time.at the same temp to get rare/medium rare. This was a great starting point. Thanks again! .

I was wondering which setting on the air fryer would be best? I have a Gourmia from Costco and slowly learning the pre-set settings. There seems to be differences between air fryer to roast to broil. I suppose I'll, are pre-set at 375° Not sure about a manual setting though. My girlfriend wants to pan fry them in butter. I suppose it's just trial and error.

I had the Gourmia from Costco and loved it...I only ended up buying the Breville because I have a small kitchen and wanted to use it for other things a well. I used the highest setting when making steaks in the Gourmia and they turned out great. I used a meat thermometer and pulled them when they reached an internal temp of 124 because I like my steaks medium. You can always add a dab of butter after cooking and let it melt over it too! Good luck!

I pre-heated my air fryer doesn't have 375° so i did it on 370° 10 minutes, then i flipped it over for 6 minutes since i had reduced the temperature. I only marinated with worstershire sauce and a bit of garlic & pepper. I sautéed some mushrooms separately.. perfect dinner 😋 with some broccoli & cauliflower! Thank you!
