Craft Rooms or Breakfast Nooks?

craftroomredo

I have been putting this off big time.  Remember when I made over my breakfast nook, and everybody went crazy because it was the prettiest breakfast nook ever?  Well, looks like I’ll be turning my breakfast nook back into my craft room.  I have seen so many craft rooms all around the web, but I don’t have an extra room.  This is the only space for my stuff.

Well…it wasn’t quite “working” for me.  I loved looking at it, and would occasionally sit in it, but it just wasn’t functional for me.

The kids and Matt rarely sat in the breakfast nook area, and I kept lugging all of my craft junk in from the garage and leaving it there.

It lost it’s luster.  It’s a shame really, it sure was pretty.

But alas…it was not meant to be.

I know, I know, but to be honest, one of the chairs broke, the other was getting wobbly, and the bench…not so comfortable.

That’s the problem with pretty…it’s not always comfy.

So, I moved the table, unbroken chair and bench out, and brought in Matt’s old cherry desk that was in my garage.

I made my own chalk paint, and painted it white along with a table that I had in my bedroom.

Now, I just have to figure out what to do.  I need to get organized, and want to keep my space pretty at the same time.

The curtains have got to go…I stole them from my bedroom, and HATE them here.

And…I’m going to have to come up with some new pretty craft room storage.

So, I guess I’m giving you another sneak peek…just like Kate’s cottage bedroom sneak peek!

By next week, they will both be finished, and maybe I can relax a bit…doubtful, but we will see!

So…what do you think?  Is it a terrible tragedy, or do you understand needing space to function well in a smallish home?

Be nice!

Make curtains out of drop cloths!

Function well, is best, and I really just adore the white floor lamp!

I love it! I loved your breakfast nook too but I think your house should work for you … and if it’s better as a craft nook, then go for it!

I don’t think so at all! We need to make our homes work hard for us. No reason to have a room that looks great but serves no purpose! Make it work girl :) If getting crafty in there is more useful… then craft it up Jess!! :)

TErrible tragedy!! And wonderful…you need a space that works. Buck up and make that space work for you!

I have all my craft crap in a room off of our laundry room and more often than not, end up crafting on our dining room table. I think I might have to take over a corner of our house and claim it as my own!!

Jessica! I swear, you and I are like long lost sisters or something! LOL! I just did a major switch of rooms too! HA HA HA! I know some people won’t understand it, but I hated it the other way. No matter what the size of your home, you need to make it work for you – and if it doesn’t? Well? It grates on your nerves. :D Besides, no one lives there but YOU and you need to do what you like, not what you think others like. :) Can’t wait to see how it turns out!! :D

It’s going to be AMAZING when you are done! I have such a hard time with my craft space as well – can’t keep it organized to save my life.

Awesome. I’m thinking some burlap curtains would be so cute. These curtains aren’t horrible. And the room is SO CUTE! You could forgo curtains all together. It’s a craft room. Not a room you want pull out a vaccume and get at those curtains all of the time. Another suggestion…..shutters?

Hey you gotta go with what works for you. We can’t afford to have valuable space just sitting there when it can be productive when used appropriately. It was pretty but I’m sure you will come up with something. I would have just left that table there to use for the work table. Desks take up a lot of space. I’m sure you will come up with something great!

I miss my craft room.. Since we moved I still have yet to make a space for me.. : ) I am back to Crafting at the Kitchen table, counter, living room and where ever else I left my last mess :) Can’t wait to see your new Spaces!!

Um, I totally understand. Half the rooms I put together have zero function, and over the course of time they all get turned back into something way more functional, and SO not as pretty. That’s why all my ‘this project is COMPLETE!!’ photos have to last a lifetime….because that room will never look that pretty ever again!! :) However, for what it’s worth, I think that room is darling as a breakfast nook AND as a craft room. And gurl, you NEED a craft room!! ~ V

I simply adore your breakfast nook! However, you do what you must. I am completely in the craft room cornor. I turned my only extra bedroom into one and notified my family that Mom’s B&B was closed (all my children are local). I have ever regretted it. Having space to work and not have to put it away is a dream come true. You are so creative that the craft room will be astounding.
