With a new year upon us, I’m really feeling the itch to get more organized. Before starting this blog, I was the queen of organization. I try to keep up now, but it seems like I am constantly throwing things around, or starting one project, then something else pops in my head and I run off and start that.
Well, no more! I am getting myself organized, starting with my desk. I really need a place to pin notes and appointment reminders, plus a few pics of my kiddos. I have seen some really cute bulletin boards, but since I found some old windows this summer, I have been dying to turn it into a unique cork board. I saved up some wine corks, and had a friend who owns a restaurant save theirs as well, and as of yesterday, I finally had enough to turn my old window into a wine cork board!
During the Summer, I took a trip to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore…what an amazing place! It’s a store full of used furniture, light fixtures, shutters, doors, windows…and lots more.
I was there looking for an old shutter. I found one for $3 and it was the perfect addition to my Aqua and White Breakfast Nook. Then, I saw these amazing old windows. I had no idea what I would use them for, but at $2 each, I had to grab some up. I used one to make a Faux Stained Glass Window, but had two left.
I painted the wood white before adhering the corks, that way you can mess up and it won’t even matter!
I started with one pane. I laid the corks down in a pattern and counted to see how many I would need for the other panes. Each pain required 54 wine corks…shewwww, that’s a lot of wine! I hot glued each cork into place.
Then I found my box of tacks that I picked up at The Dollar Tree and hot glued them onto the backs of some old buttons. I mean, with a cork board this cute, you can’t just throw some lame tacks on it, right?
So, what do you think? Cute, right?
I placed my new wine cork board on the back of my Beachy Blue Desk Painted With Home-made Chalk Paint. I love the look! Now, time to move on to organizing the rest of my house…ugh!

Love this idea! When we moved in to our home in July the previous homeowners left a mirror just like this, it’s already painted white too and lord knows I have lots of corks around here!! ;) That’s not a problem though right – haha!! Great post J!!

I have been making cork boards and trays for years now (and selling them in my wildoakdesigns.etsy.com store), but this one I haven’t seen yet!

looks great! someone likes yellowtail, lol. i have seen people cut the corks in half, too-on this, with that flat surface of the window, it looks like it could work nicely. if i ever do this, i’ll do it that way. thanks for the inspiration!

Very cool! Old windows are one of my favorite things to repurpose, and this is a great idea that I hadn’t thought of. I can’t wait to try it! Must drink about 150 bottles of wine first, though. ;)
