Stenciled Vanity

My little Kate is growing up on me!  I am happy in many ways, and sad too.  She is growing into such a sweet young lady.  She is helpful, kind, crafty, sweet, and such a girly girl.  School starts here next week, and she asked if we could change her room up a bit so she can “get ready” in there instead of our downstairs bathroom.  She also wanted to start curling her hair in the mornings.  Say what???

I was sort of complaining to my friend Becky about how I was going to have to get up earlier for this whole hair curling thing, and Becky said, “Well, teach her to do it herself.”  My response:  ”What?  No way, no how!  What if she burns herself?  And…I’m not sure I have the patience to handle teaching her.”  So, Becky offered to teach her.  Becky is a girly girl with two boys, so she was actually excited to teach her…yay me!  I’m off the hook!

The day before the big Hair Curling 101 class, she asked if I would please fix her vanity.  You can’t really tell from the picture below, but the top was stained badly.  You see, her sweet surrogate Aunt Erica gave it to her, and she had used it for quite a while.  I have been promising to paint it for over a year, so I could not say no this time.

I finally broke out my stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils and got to work.  I am going to do a thorough tutorial on how to use the stencil next week.  This time, I was in the zone, and forgot to take pictures along the way.

She loves it!  The difference is so stunning!  All big girly now, and it coordinates with her bedding and the pillows she made.  She moved all of her headbands and clips upstairs, we bought her a curling iron of her own, and she just had to have a new hairbrush.  My little girl is growing up :(

I had to include this picture of she and Becky mid-curling class!  She totally said, “Seriously Mom, no pictures!”  Ugh…

How cute, I love the stenciling! I actually picked up that same vanity at a thrift store a few months ago, but it didn’t have the mirror with it. I’ve been wondering what the complete piece looked like, now I know! It’s the prettiest desk, I love the details. It looks good with a stenciled top, might have to try that. Thanks for sharing! =)
