Sew A Ruffle {Tutorial}

Recently, I decided to pull out the old sewing machine and try some new things.  I have mastered pillows, which are super easy, but really want to bump up my sewing skills.  One of the things that I challenged myself to figure out was how to sew a ruffle.  Being able to sew a ruffle has sparked some real creativity within me.
I tried a few different techniques, but here is the one that works best for me…
Start by setting the spacing on your sewing machine to 5.0.  This will allow you to sew your fabric loosely enough to pull the ruffle.
Sew straight down the middle of your fabric.  Pull the front thread with one hand, and inch your fabric down with your other hand.  Then, tie your front and back threads together on each end.

Once you have figure out how to sew a ruffle, you can do just about anything!  Here are a few projects that I have done with my new ruffling technique…

So, what do you think?  Are you ready to tackle ruffles?  Do you have a different method that you use?

    I am having an issue with the thread pulling totally out of the fabric..do you run a back stitch to keep it from doing that or am i doing something wrong?

    What kind of sewing machine do you have?/ I’m currently using a dinosaur that is my Mom’s and thinking I need to get a new one.
