A few months ago, I shared this tutorial for sewing your own camera strap covers. I made two different options, one with a ruffle and rosettes, and another with a fun fabric and buttons. They ares so fun and festive and completely easy to make!
Here is how I made them…
I started out by ordering the following supplies from
1/4 Yard of Flora (25053-15 Tangerine Paisley Flower) Fabric by Moda
1/4 Yard of Verona (C2800-Gray Main) Fabric by Riley Blake
1/4 Yard of Verona (C2805-Rouge Dots) Fabric by Riley Blake
Button Jar (JB113 Flirtation)
Button Jar (JB103 Wildflowers)
Let’s start with the Camera Strap Cover with Ruffle & Rosettes
First, I cut my fabric for the ruffle. I cut the fabric
5″ W X 43″ L.
I chose the Verona Gray for the ruffle.
Next, I cut my fabric for the actual strap cover. It measured 5″ W X 25″ L.
For the strap, I chose the Verona Rouge Dots.
It seems to me that there are countless ways to sew a ruffle. I simply sew a very loose stitch down the middle of my fabric, then pull the fabric down until it bunches as much or little as I like.
Here is a quick visual of how I sew my ruffles…
Here is the ruffle that I made.
Now, let’s make the strap cover. First you need to sew the ends. Simply fold the width of the fabric over twice at about 1/4 inches. Then, sew down the seam. Do this step to both sides.
Now fold your fabric lengthwise, right sides together, and sew another 1/4 inch seam.
Flip your strap cover right side out.
Here comes the fun part…embellishing!
Turn the strap cover over, and hot glue your ruffle right down the middle of the seam.
I added some rosettes to my ruffle for fun. I used leftover pieces of fabric to make these. They are super simple. If you would like to learn to make fabric rosettes, you can view my tutorial here.
Here is the Camera Strap with Ruffles and Rosettes all finished…so fun and colorful!
Simple Camera Strap Cover w/ Buttons
To make this Camera Strap Cover, simply skip the above steps, and only sew the strap cover portion.
You can leave it with no embellishments, or for a little flair, you can sew on some coordinating buttons.
This may actually be my new favorite…simple, yet fun!
