Snack Attack! Easy Snack Ideas for Back to School

School is starting next week, so it is time to start getting ready for lunch packing…bleck!  Sorry, but I absolutely detest packing lunches…not sure why, but I do.  One morning during the last school year, when I was packing Kate’s lunch, I realized that most of the items I was putting in her lunch box were ridiculously processed.  It’s actually one of the reasons that I started this blog.  I decided that I needed to do a better job of making sure that I feed my children healthier foods, instead of all of the convenient, prepacked foods.  So, I set out on adventure to find healthy, but fun foods to put in their lunches.  That doesn’t mean no treats, I just cut back on them, and made sure to offer healthier options.  If you haven’t read my first post, check it out, it may just open your eyes a little… http://mom4real.com/2011/05/struggling-to-feed-kids-healthy-meals.html

I have had several request for back to school snack ideas, so Kate and I got busy preparing them.  They were so easy that I let Kate make them, and I just stood back and took pictures!  Here are three yummy, fun options…

Fruit Kabobs

Start with your favorite fruits, and coffee straws.

Poke the coffee straw through the fruits, one at a time.

That’s it!  Super quick and easy!

Fruit Kabobs!

Cinnamon Smores Snack Mix

Start with mini marshmallows, cinnamon cereal squares, and mini chocolate chips.
Pour them all into a big bowl.

Give them a stir.

Put mix in small containers, so they are ready to pop into the lunch box!
I like these containers made by Ball…and how cute is she!

Ants on a Log

Lay out raisins, cream cheese or peanut butter, and celery sticks.
Spread cream cheese or pb down the middle of the celery sticks.

Plop the raisins down the middle like little ants…hence, the ants on a log ;)

Tada!  Fun back to school snacks!
How cute are these?  Kate is so excited to be able to take these in her lunch!  They are fun and super easy.  These are just a few of our ideas, so next week we will post more!  We hope your kids love these as much as ours do…Happy Lunch Packing!
Due to having some of my content and posts stolen by no good lazy people who don’t do their own projects, I am sorry to have to truncate (shorten) my feeds. Please don’t hold it against me, and continue reading, because I do love you and want to share my tutorials with you ;)

Love,

Jessica

Love the snack ideas – saw your post mentioned on Twitter.

The thing about the s’mores snack is that my little ones could mix them up for me and put them in containers. Sounds like a plan to me!

I have the ball containers, too. I like to use them for smoothies in the freezer.

I hate packing lunches too…I do it for my husband and I don’t know why I detest it so much, but such as it is I love him enough to do it every day.

Love the fruit kabobs. Those look so yummy!

Those are some great ideas. My child is so stinkin’ picky though! I’m telling you — my judgments of other Mom’s not making their kids eat healthy have come back to bite me! I can’t force my daughter because she will just gag and back it comes. Argh. Love the ideas though! And your daughter is a cutie~
