How to Cut a Pineapple

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love, love, love fresh pineapple!  At my house, we eat it fresh, grilled with caribbean jerk pork chops, kabobed with chicken and peppers, and chopped in a fresh pineapple salsa.  I have bought it canned in the past, but once you have it fresh, it’s hard to go back.  The first time I bought one, I put it up on my cutting board and just stared at it…I thought, how in the world do you cut this thing?  Well, after many attempts, I figured it out.  Now, I would like to share with you…

Start with a clean, fresh pineapple.
Flip it on it’s side, and cut the top off, keep it for garnish if you like.
Flip it around, and cut off the bottom.
Stand it up.
Start by cutting off one side, about 1/2 inch in.
Turn the pineapple around and keep cutting.
Note:  you don’t need to cut huge strips at a time, cut about
2 inch strips off at a time.
Once you have cut all of the rind off, find the core. (It is a lighter yellow and round.)
Place the blade of your knife just to the right of the core, and cut straight down.
Keep cutting all away around the core.  Remember, it the strips of pineapple will not all be the same size.
Lay the pineapple strips down, flat.  Cut them into strips.
Notice, they are not all the same width.
Now, turn them around, and cut them into large chunks.
That’s it, you are finished!
Place the top of the pineapple in the middle of a platter or plate, and put the pineapple all around it
for a nice fruit platter, or throw some on the grill the next time you have fish, chicken, or pork.
It needs no seasoning, and you will absolutely love it!  Happy pineapple chopping!
Due to having some of my content and posts stolen by no good lazy people who don’t do their own projects, I am sorry to have to truncate (shorten) my feeds. Please don’t hold it against me, and continue reading, because I do love you and want to share my tutorials with you ;)

Love,

Jessica

My kids love pineapple but I usually just buy it canned or already cut at the market (somewhat expensive). I have always been a little scared, but you made it look and sound so easy I think I might try this tommorow!!! Thanks for another great tip!!! Catching up via VoiceBoks!! Have a great weekend!!!

I can’t count the number of times I’ve walked past pineapple in the grocery store and thought it looked great but didn’t buy it because I didn’t want to cut it up. Seriously, just look at it! It’s a yummy piece of fruit determined not to be eaten. Pokey, spiked, armor-ridden tease! Lol, thanks for the tips, you make it look easy. The next pineapple I come across doesn’t stand a chance now!

It’s funny you post this because I was afraid of cutting a pineapple forever! I cut my first one just a few weeks ago. They smelled soooo good in the grocery store and I just had to try. It was so much easier than I thought and so beautiful paired with strawberries.

Beautiful blog… I am your newest follower.

That is exactly the way I do it. I’m really impressed with the pineapple vendors here, they’re absolute pros. Can you imagine cutting a pine apple by holding it in one hand, cutting away the peel, chopping up the pineapples, while all the while never touching the actual fruit with your hands…and all in less than 10 seconds!?

  23. 23

woohooo!! nicely done!!! cant wait to try it out!

I don’t eat pineapple very often because it is so hard to cut :) I saw that they had a cutter specifically for it now. I think it was a pampered chef product. I really should buy it more often. If nothing else, to make smoothies! Stopping back by from Midwestern Moms!
