Oh, what a week it has been! Last Friday, we found out that our 11 year old sheltie, Benny, has incurable cancer. Sounds pretty bad, and it is, but we have decided to make the best of it and spoil him to death, literally. The good thing is, he has no idea he is sick, so he just thinks he hit the lottery! Kate has taken him on numerous walks, painted a shirt that says, “I Love You, Benny”, and she has been taking pictures of him for a special “Benny” scrapbook. Hopefully all of this will help when his time comes, but it’s hard to tell.
Friday night, we opened up our patio, woohoo! Some friends came over, we lit the tiki torches, listened to music, grilled kabobs with zucchini and pineapple, had a fire in the fire pit, and the girls ended the evening with a dance party! Benny was properly spoiled with lots of ball throwing and cuddling by everyone. We had a blast, stayed up a little too late, and kicked off the weekend!
On Sunday, we headed north to Cincinnati. We started our day at the fabulous Cincinnati Zoo, where we saw many animals, and I got to reunite with one of my closest friends from high school who I haven’t seen in 17 years! She works at the zoo, so she and her son gave us an incredible tour, and we had the best time! It was hotter than Haites, but their animals were all very visible and just breathtakingly beautiful! The lions and the polar bear were our family favorites, and Cam loved the wolves. The children’s zoo was awesome! There was no additional fee to get in like there was years ago, and the otters and sea lions were absolutely adorable! We had the greatest time, and can’t wait to go back!
Sunday evening, we headed downtown to the Taste of Cincinnati! If you are a food lover like myself, this is the place to be! Tons of restaurants from the Cincinnati area set up booths and bring their best dishes. There is no admission, you just walk up and down the street and pay for the foods you would like to try! It is food heaven! Thanks to Uncle Virg, Cam had his first funnel cake and loved it! He also had fried pickles, so I am not sure how he didn’t get sick. Kate and Matt had bbq from Montgomery Inn, and said it was yummy. I had a reuben from Izzy’s and it was to die for! We bumped in to Amy again, while watching a group of guys playing the drums on buckets, and Kate rode the jeeps in the carnival area. Then we headed to Florence for a cookout with Virg and Erin! Needless to say, we were ridiculously stuffed and nobody had any trouble falling to sleep! Cinci was a blast! Can’t wait to do it again, there is just so much to do there!
Monday morning, Kate woke up with a temp, and ended up with strep, booooo! So, she missed two of the last four days of school. Cam had field day yesterday, and looks like a lobster. Tonight is Picnic with the Arts at Kate’s school, and tomorrow is the last day of school, shewwww! It’s been a crazy week, full of fun, and a little down time, but we have so much to be thankful for! My kids have had the best teachers this year, and both go to wonderful schools! It’s time to kick back, and enjoy not having to pack lunches every day, and maybe even sleep in a little! Happy Summer Break!
Keep it Real,
